First Meeting

6th August 2011
Inaugural Kongor School Support Group Meeting

People at the meeting wept as Aluel stood up and thanked the audience from the heart.  She said; “My English is not very good but I thank you for helping us to build a school, in our country, because the old one was destroyed by bombs we had to run to save our  lives …Australia saved us”.

Then, nine year old Aguer stood in front of the audience in his black suit and white shirt to thank them for coming to help build a school for the 1612 girls and boys who are at present studying under trees with few resources.

“Their work will get wet when it rains and it is very windy”,  Aguer said,” they really need a school to learn in, like we have here in Australia.”  Aguer  and his six year old brother, Deng, are students in North Wonthaggi Primary School.  Aguer’s teacher was there with his family to watch and no doubt be proud of him.

Aluel , a great cook, had, prepared a feast of delicious South Sudanese food for all of us. We all ate too much while talking and listening to South Sudanese music.  Despite a few tears, the meeting was a joyous occasion.

We have plans for ongoing fundraising activities.  If you have time to help, or to donate quality, portable goods for sale, or goods for prizes in raffles, you are welcome to email Felicia on:  sgrar07@gmail.com  to register your interest and help us build a school for the children of Kongor.
